Job Description
Senior Purchasing Manager
This non-automotive, nonunion manufacturer is currently looking for a senior purchasing manager. While others in the industry are stagnant, this company has grown by leaps and bounds, with their most profitable year in 2009. As the senior purchasing manager you will partner with engineering and marketing to maximize competitiveness of new product lines, aggressively pursue and lead efforts to deliver significant raw material savings, inventory of materials and sourcing and selection of vendors, development of vendor contractual agreements and improvement of procurement processes. You will report daily to the VP of operations and have one direct and two indirect reports. Candidates must have strong negotiating abilities, coaching and mentoring of their staff and the ability to improve processes. Qualified candidates will be dynamic leaders who are able to build consensus and teams. Individuals will be flexible, problem solvers, good communicators at all levels and believe in continuous improvement efforts.
Required skills/background for the strategic sourcing manager:
1. A Bachelors degree in a related field
2. A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar purchasing management role
3. Experience sourcing vendors for new product development
4. Inventory control, experience keeping cost down and increasing inventory turns
5. Experience establishing vendor contracts
6. Supervision of others
7. Kanban inventory systems
8. ERP or MRP experience
9. Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desired skills/background:
1. Implementation of Kanban systems
2. CPIM certification
3. Building products or complex manufacturing
